Who is Jesus, son of Mary?

One questions so many answers. The problem starts when the people who claim to believe in Jesus and yet has different understanding about his personality. For this reason I have no room for mans tradition. All my quotation will be from God books. (Old Testament, New Testament and Quran)

As I quote the Quran we will read the word Allah which is the Arabic word for God, the Creator and Ruler of the universe, used by Arabic speakers everywhere whether Arabic speaking Christians, Arabic speaking Muslims, or Arabic speaking atheists. Allah is the ONLY word used by Arabic speakers to refer to this Creator God who is also Master of the Judgment Day.

I read in my Arabic Bible John 3:16 as:

Joh 3:16  For ALLAH so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

If we ask the Muslims who Jesus is? The answer will be plain and clear:

Quran 5:75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!

God’s way is always wonderful. He explains things in a way even the small children can grasp it easily. “See how we make the revelations clear for them” this verse explain so many things, a man can write even a large book up on this single verse but I will try to make it as short as possible.

We read also from Quran:

Quran 5:72 They surely disbelieve who say : Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary. The Messiah (himself) said : O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! whoso ascribeth partners unto Allah, for him Allah hath forbidden Paradise. His abode is the Fire. For evildoers there will be no helpers.

Again so clear and plain: “They surely disbelieve who say : Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.”

Quran says (5:75) The Messiah; son of Mary was no other then a messenger. And in same verse we read: ‘And his mother was a saintly woman.’  And we just read in verse 72 (5:72) ‘They surely disbelieve who say : Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.’ And the verse continues: ‘The Messiah (himself) said : O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’

Quran is so clear and it goes with perfect harmony with the Bible. But is it in harmony with what most of the Christians believes? Is it in harmony with mans doctrine? For sure not.

Quran says: The Messiah; son of Mary (the Christ son of Mary) was no other then a messenger.

Before we have a look to the Bible about this let make 2 issue clear:

  1. Who is God according to the Bible?
  2. What it means to be a messenger.

God in the Bible:
Deu 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Mar 12:29 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord:

It is so clear that we have One God. And who is He?

1Co 8:6  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.

So, there is One God, the Father. (Allah)

And when we say a messenger we understand that someone been sent.

Quran says: The Messiah; son of Mary (the Christ son of Mary) was no other then a messenger.

Bible says; Jesus himself speaking:
Joh 5:30  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

He do nothing of him self, he seek the will of the Father (Allah) which had sent him.

Joh 17:25 O righteous Father, the world hath not known thee: but I have known thee, and these have known that thou hast sent me.

Joh 8:29  And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

Joh 6:39  And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

Joh 5:24  Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

Luk 4:18  The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,

And many more verses talking about the Father have sent Jesus. If the Father (Allah) sent Jesus, isn't that Jesus Fathers messenger?

Quran says: (5:72) ‘They surely disbelieve who say : Lo! Allah is the Messiah, son of Mary.’ And the verse continues: ‘The Messiah (himself) said : O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’

Let’s see what the Messiah said in the Bible:

Joh 20:17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

Quran says: ‘The Messiah (himself) said : O Children of Israel, worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.’

Bible says:

Joh 4:21  Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when ye shall neither in this mountain, nor yet at Jerusalem, worship the Father.

Joh 4:23  But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

Mat 4:10  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

There is perfect harmony between the Bible and the Quran.

Now, I want to go back again to the Quran and spend more time with those two verses we read above.

Did you notice how God talk about Jesus? He gave details of Jesus identity; The Messiah, son of Mary. The Quran clearly state that Jesus Christ, Isa Al-Messih is a man lived on earth and her mothers name was Mary. When we say Jesus Christ, we mean The Messiah, the man who lived on earth, the one felt hungry, eat food, drink water, get tired, fall a sleep. The one was like me in every meaning, tempted by Satan and over come the sin and was my example in every way.

Bible says:

1Pe 2:21 For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

1Pe 2:22 Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth:

Heb 2:17  Therefore in all things it behoved him to be made like His brothers, that He might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of His people.

Heb 2:18  For in that He Himself has suffered, having been tempted, He is able to rescue those who are being tempted.

Christ suffered for us; Christ made like his brothers; Christ was our example that we should follow his steps. If I should follow his steps, if I have to be like him he must be like me in nature or how I can follow him? I can’t follow Allah steps, can I?

So, again there is perfect harmony between the Bible and the Quran.

Let us spend more time in chapter 5. Al-Maidah verse 75.

Quran 5:75 The Messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. And his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away!

Again notice the details, The Messiah, son of Mary. We talked about first part of this verse above, now let us deal with the second part. ‘and his mother was a saintly woman’?! Why suddenly ‘his mother’ pup up here?! And they both eat food! And you might ask what God means with saying; ‘See how we make the revelations clear for them’! Mary, a good woman, a mother of Jesus, used to eat food??? What else she can eat?  Does it make any sense? Well, it might sound ridicules to us but this verse was (and I believe still is) huge problem between Islam and Catholic Church. If we make small research and read about the Catholics Church history we will read about Mary being given the title queen of heaven, the mother of god, the bearer of god etc. And is to be found in catholic prayers and art.

The worship of a queen of heaven is known from old pagan history, and from the Bible we can see how God looked upon this among his people:

Jer 7:17  Do you not see what they are doing in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?
Jer 7:18  The children gather wood, the fathers kindle fire, and the women knead dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven. And they pour out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger.

The title mater dei, mother of god, was given by the Counsil of Ephesus in the 5th century. It’s rather ironic that this happenss in Ephesus when we read about Paul in Ephesus:

Act 19:23  And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.
Act 19:24  For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;
Act 19:25  Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.
Act 19:26  Moreover ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands:
Act 19:27  So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana should be despised, and her magnificence should be destroyed, whom all Asia and the world worshippeth.
Act 19:28  And when they heard these sayings, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

Diana, name meaning heavenly/divine, is equal to the Greek goddess Artemis, she was among other things known to be the virgin goddess, and had swore never to get married.
In the Counsil of Ephesus it looks like the strong Diana-tradition in Ephesos, found a new favorite goddess.

Now it has gone some hundred years since the stir at Pauls time. If you visit the Ephesos area today (close to Izmir, Turkey) you will find “the house of the virgin”. This house was “discovered” by the German nun, sister Anne Catherine Emmerich, that after she woke from a trance with stigmata had a vision were she saw the apostle John taking Mary from Jerusalem to Ephesos. She described the house that later was found by others that went to look for it.  Today thousands of pilgrims and tourists visit the place, were they also can buy small statues of virgin Mary, bringing “no small gain unto the craftsmen”. Same goddess, new name!

So, we clearly see that Quran fight all the pagans teaching in Christianity world, and on the top of it is the Trinity.
